About this premium paperback

A reformed reprobate desiring a new life. A native woman desperate to find her people. Can they work together to escape the band of men hunting them?

Robert Sweeney wants nothing more than to settle down in the cabin he built and work  the land where he homesteaded in the Roaring Fork Valley. With his disreputable past firmly behind him, he’s ready for a peaceful life, even if it is lonely. Will years of shouldering a tainted family legacy and the weight of guilt hold him back from the serenity he craves?

Sparrow arrives at her tribal land only to find her people gone and a white settlement pitched among the fertile soil. Her heart plummets with dread. She should have never stayed away as long as she did. Now, she’ll be hard pressed to find her family before the snow falls.

When the deeds of devious men throw Robert and Sparrow together, will their epic journey over the Coloradan mountains bind them together or will the unyielding terrain break them apart?

If you like page-turning adventure, fascinating characters, and engaging stories of triumph, you'll love Sara Blackard's western historical romance.

New type of story for Sara.

This is a beautiful story set in the late 1800’s in Colorado. Robert Sweeney was a simple man, trying get away from his past and build a new life. Sparrow was an Indian woman, widow of a white man. She was on her way back to her tribe after an extended visit with friends. But as she approached her encampment, she discovered not her tribe but the tents of a bunch of scruffy, wild white men who tried to accuse her of theft of the horse she was riding.
Robert and Trapper Dan (a traveling preacher) were able to rescue her from this group of evil men. But how could she find her tribe without an escort through the mountains? Dan’s solution – Robert would escort her, but only if they were married.
This story shows us the great disadvantages of women in the 1800’s, especially for Indian women. It also shows that God can overcome any disadvantage if we will only open our hearts to Him, and that we do not have to work our way into heaven.
Sara Blackard, this is a new type of story for you, but you have hit it out of the ballpark. Thanks for sending me this copy, and I am happy to write a review of this book.

    Adventure and romance.

This is such a sweet, romantic story plus packed with action. Robert and Sparrow are wonderful characters. They learn that God's plans are sometimes far from our understanding until we learn to know and trust him. This is a beautiful illustration of God's forgiveness and from that learning to forgive ourselves, leaving the past in the past. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to more in the series!

I received this book from the author as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
